John Fick (b. 1951) John is presently a sculptor and metalsmith in Oakland and Santa Rosa, Juried and Selected Shows 2000 Contract Design Center Founders Show Pacific Rim Sculptor Group Outdoor Sculpture Exhibitions and Commissions 2000 Port Commission, Oakland, CA Estuary Park John Fick - Metal Sculpture John has exhibited his sculptures professionally since 1972. After attending a liberal arts college and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kansas City Art Institute, he ventured out to California. Finding employment in industrial and art foundries, machine shops, structural welding shops and artists studios, he continued to enrich his knowledge of metal working techniques. Later attending The University of California at Berkeley, he studied Sculpture with Peter Voulkos and Brian Wall. After receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree from U. C. Berkeley he received “An Individual Artist Fellowship” from the National Endowment for the Arts. John uses foundry and metal smithing techniques in the production of his sculptures. By working the metal hot his iron sculptures gained an almost clay like quality. John has been an active member of the California Blacksmiths Association and the Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America for the last 15 years. During that time he has served as a board member, vice president and president of the California Blacksmiths Association. For the past 35 years, John has been self-employed producing sculptures and custom architectural metalwork on a commission basis. |
